About
A hobby page, not a language school.
Friends overseas kept asking the same things: how do I write my name, what do we eat, which neighbourhood is worth an afternoon, what do I call this person. I got tired of typing the same answers, so they live here instead. The wheels are the short version. The guides are the long version of the same questions.
What this site actually does
You type a name and the page maps the sounds onto Hangul with a small phonetic table that lives in the browser. You can then spin for a meal, a Seoul district, a drama, and a hanbok palette, and keep the result on one card. The card is saved in this browser. There is no account and no login. The page is set to keep data locally (db: "local"). It does not send the card to a server I run.
What the Hangul is not
It is not an official spelling of your name. Silent letters get dropped, and a consonant at the end of a syllable often sounds different from the same consonant at the start, because Korean writes sounds rather than English letters. A passport office will not accept this. If you want to practice the blocks themselves, the sister board is Hangul Block.
What is a joke and what is not
The food, the districts, the dramas, and the phrases in the guides are written as real descriptions. The fortune lines are jokes. Korean given names carry hanja that this page does not choose for you, so a spun name is a sound, not a meaning.
Who runs it
One person, publishing as ewhite911. There is no company, no office, and no phone number on this site. Corrections go through the contact page. The adult soju-table wheel is a different site, Soju Table Games, and it is 18+ only.
